How we build our rankings

At Decarank, every ranking follows the same process, and we publish it so anyone can check it.

1. Research

We gather verifiable data from reliable sources: awards, official figures, expert reviews, studies and reference works. If a fact can't be checked, we don't publish it.

2. Public criteria

Each ranking states what is weighed and how much each criterion counts, for example influence, quality, recognition and staying power. That way you can see why one entry ranks above another.

3. Editorial review

Before publishing, a second review checks the order, the facts and the sources. Every ranking shows its publication date and the date of its latest review.

4. Reader votes

• Any reader can vote for their favourite in each ranking. There is one vote per person, and you can change it.
• If your favourite is missing, you can suggest it. Our editors review it before publishing it.
• Once a ranking passes 1,000 votes, we show the number of votes and each entry's percentage. With fewer votes we don't publish figures, because a small sample isn't representative.
• Once a ranking passes 5,000 votes, readers' votes decide the order.
• Votes on the English and Spanish versions of the same ranking are combined.
• We protect voting against bots and repeat votes.

5. Images

We use freely licensed photos from Wikimedia Commons, always credited with their author and licence, or our own photos. Videos come from official channels.

6. Rankings suggested by readers

Anyone can suggest a top 10. When a suggestion gets enough votes, it is drafted with the help of artificial intelligence tools and a member of our editorial team reviews and approves every ranking and its facts before it is published.

7. Independence

The site is funded by advertising. No placement is sold or paid for: advertisers have no influence on the rankings. If we ever include affiliate links, they will be clearly labelled.

8. Corrections

If you spot a mistake, write to us from the contact page. We review it and, where appropriate, correct it and update the review date.
